Description
TWO AFRICAN TRIBAL HORN AND STEEL DAGGERS, SOMALIA, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, also known as a "Billao," each with a tapering carved horn hilt and a conforming metal pommel of two truncated prongs flanking an ovoid third prong, above a horn finger guard and leaf form double edged blade centering conforming black oxidized decoration, the largest blade length: 8", enclosed by a leather scabbard with broad stamped leather strap belt and wrought iron buckle, total length: 15 3/8"; together with another Somalian similarly carved horn handled and steel blade dagger, length: 13 3/8". Provenance: These daggers formed part of the collection of tribal pieces amassed by the Seldens during their many trips abroad from the 1940's to 1970's.
Condition
Good condition for items of this age, use and materials, with handles having chips, small cracks and scratches from use, blades have some areas of surface rust, normal small scratches.
