Description
TWO SOUTHERN CHINESE OR VIETNAMESE GLAZED STONEWARE DISHES, comprising a serving bowl with an exterior decorated with geometric shapes, lines, and swirls in underglaze cobalt blue oxides, interior base and exterior heightened foot remains partially unglazed, height: 3 1/4", diameter: 9"; along with a Southern Chinese or Vietnamese celadon glazed serving dish, the inverted rim and steep well leading down to an unglazed ring around the glazed center incised in representation of a stemmed flower, reversing to a partially glazed underside, height: 2 1/2", diameter: 10".
Condition
The bowl with a number of significant cracks that have attempted to be repaired, hardened paste residue, a fine network of craquelure throughout glazed areas, as well as pitting, chips on rim, and discoloration of decoration. The celadon serving dish with glaze chips on rim, pitting, incised flower off center, unmarked. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
