Some of the prettiest looking furniture from Wenzhou, a town in Southeast Zhejiang Province in Southeast China. Wenzhou had been a Foreign Treaty port in the last half of the 19 century and some of the foreign influences can be seen here. Its form and dimensions also did not come out of established traditions. Rather, it resembled a western bench with Chinese influences, and those influences are lovely. The back is made up of different panels, some pierced like the two cracked ice panels. There is also carving on the arm rails, and on the open apron. The legs have decorative spandrels adding interest. It has a nice antique patina throughout. It dates from early 20 century.
