Description
1st item: Small oil on board painting of two young women at the edge of a body of water, one dips her toes in the water while the other leans behind her. 5" x 4 1/2", 9 1/2' x 8" in giltwood molded frame. 2nd and 3rd items: Two oil on canvas portraits of young women wearing head coverings, both are unsigned but appear to be painted by the same hand and have stamped marks for Toiles et Couleurs F.../L.AUBE.../Rue Brea.. en verso. 17 1/2" x 22 1/2". Continental, last half 19th century. Provenance: estate of James R. (and Mary B.) Packard, Huntsville, Alabama. (Additional high-resolution photos are available at www.caseantiques.com)
Condition
1st item: light grime, minor wear to frame. 2nd and 3rd items: lacking stretchers, both canvases are embrittled with some horizontal crazing, one has a 2" area of scattered flaking at subject's left shoulder area, blanching and powdering, especially to upper right quadrant, the other has scattered minor tiny flakes and some light blanching to far right side background area.
