Contemporary half leather with green spine labels and rich spine gilding (partly rubbed, bumped and chafed, spine with small fracture). - "The most accurate neuroanatomical work produced before the advent of microspcopic stained techniques. Vicq identifies accurately for the first time many of the cerebral convolutions, along with various internal structures of the brain ... remained unfinshed at V's premature death" (Garrison/Morton 401.2), "The unusually luxurious quality of this work and the unbusinesslike way in which Vicq permitted purchasers to acquire seperate parts of the work strongly suggest that he financed its publication" (Norman Libr. 2150). - Without plates 25-28 with the relevant contourengravings and the last part title, title old stamped. - Impressive and important work.

Aufgrund seines frühen Todes blieb das Werk unvollendet. Zu den 26 vorh. Umrisskupfern mit detaillierten Bezeichnungen durch Buchstaben und Zahlen, die auf den erklärenden Text hinweisen. Taf 18 ist ein voll schwarzweiß Kupfer nach Soemmerrings "De basi encephali". - Ohne die farb. Tafeln 25-28 mit den entsprechenden Umrisskupfern, ohne die Textseiten 88-111 und den letzten Zwischentitel, Titel alt gestempelt. - Eindrucksvolles und wichtiges Werk.
