Guerrero in the year 1911, dedicated to the Virgin Guadalupe by Francisca Zepeda of the city of Sahuayo in Michoacan, Mexico. The text translates, "I Francisca Zepeda dedicate this retablo to Our Lady of Guadalupe as a testament of my gratitude for having cured my nephew of a grave illness. -F. Zepeda - Sahuayo, March 25, 1911." In ex-votos and retablo art, the Virgin Guadalupe is represented as a praying Madonna with a tilted head and gently curving body, with hands pressed together in a prayerful gesture and lowered eyes as we see so skillfully attained in this example. She is surrounded by a mandorla comprised of golden rays and stands upon a crescent moon that is supported by a cherub. A precious work of religious art, as it is exceedingly rare to find ex-votos that are signed! Custom, gold hued frame, mounted upon floating linen mat.
