Description
A gilt brass miniature casket, Nuremberg, early 17th century, from the workshops of Michel Mann (c.1589-1630), the paneled top engraved with two religious figures separated by a moveable central bar, the sides engraved with oval panels of figures in applied mounts, the interior of the lid with a lock shooting on four bolts, the base of the interior also engraved with an oval cartouche of a figure. Measures 1 7/8" x 2 7/8" x 1 7/8". The brothers, Michel and Conrad Mann, are recorded as working in Nuremberg and Augsburg in the late 16th century, making miniature caskets with intricate locks as well as guns.
