Description: Two silver plated "Giselle" bud vases/candle holders by Lino Sabattini, Italy marked on front near base. Set of 10" and 12".


History: Lino Sabattini born in Correggio (Reggio Emilia) 23 September 1925 as a simple and hardworking people. While still a child, his family moved to Blevio, a small cluster of houses on Lake Como. And 'different from other boys: games prefer the long walks in the mountains ending with dips in the lake. A passion for music and the theater. Just fourteen finds work in Como in a trivial brassware shop. It 's not a random choice. Soon it happens in his hands a number of "Domus", the magazine of Gio 'Ponti. It becomes his textbook, his Bible, his school by correspondence. In the workshop of brass objects he makes a living, but also learn the metalworking technique. In an old mill of the Lake meets Rolando Hettner, a German national who plasma beautiful ceramics, paints and reads many books. The man of the old mill becomes the exhilarating experience of his spare time, the master of existential tensions that encourages artistic breaking solutions. Sabattini now thirty years old leaves Blevio and moved to Milan, where implanted, in a basement, a small workshop with the tools essential to his work. Links with "Domus" intensify.
