Description
Rare Aerial Blue vase done by William McDonald in 1895. Decoration consists of a woman and her young child who have waded out into the ocean, the woman bending over to shelter the child from the small waves behind them. Marks on the bottom include the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 742 D, the number 273 bracketed by crescent moons (Mr. Bailey's mark for Aerial Blue) and the artist's incised initials. This is the bisque finish or smear glaze version of the Aerial Blue and the mother and child are raised ever so slightly giving a real three dimensional feel to the artwork. In excellent original condition. Height is 12 5/8 inches.
