Description
For some, collecting a piece like this may be considered "morbid" but in fact, there is an extradordinary beauty behind a piece of mourning jewelry. It always was the best that the persons economic status would allow and the geatest care was taken that it appeared as beautiful as the person that passed. The hair belonging to the deceased (circa 1870), remains in the locket and it is also in its original case which is in need of restoration. It features a spring of turquoise flowers surrounded by a wreath of pearls. The strap came with the item when it was procured, but is likely ot original. It was auctioned by the descendents of the deceased. it is 1 5/8 inch long (without the clasp) and 1 3/8 inch wide.
Condition
In great antique state except the case which requires a new hinge.
