Description
"Torah reading in Jerusalem," oil on canvas, 19 x 23 in., signed. Yossi Stern is acclaimed for his illustrations which he created for many newspapers, books and publications in Israel. He was a master aquarellist, draughtsman, photographer and oil painter. He immigrated to Israel in 1939 to escape the Holocaust but was declared an illegal immigrant and spent six months in a prison camp. He studied art at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, the Royal Academy of Art in London and on his own in Paris. He was Professor of Graphic Arts at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, a position he held for more than twenty years.
