Description
Mid 19th century, 128 x 92 cm, Central Anatolia
The ochre field is almost completely filled by two large red-ground octagons with a cruciform interior drawing and hooked outlines pointing both inwards and outwards. The large tulips stylised to bottle shapes – placed in pairs horizontally between the octagons and also seen in a reduced form in the primary designs – are a characteristic feature of this group of Ladik rugs, which were usually woven in long formats. Besim has published a comparative example. – Obvious signs of age and wear, damaged sides.
