Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan, Late Classic Period, ca. 600 to 800 CE. This is a lovely mold made sculpture of a matriarchal female figure with exposed breasts (as was the clothing style at the time), a flaring, rounded headdress, a necklace, and the "bubbled" texture on the shoulder/upper arm that is very common in Maya sculpture. It may represent scarification or tattooing or some kind of ornament. She has a refined facial expression complete with almond-shaped eyes and a large nose with nose plugs.
