Hermès
In 1837, Thierry Hermès opened his first shop in the Grands Boulevards quarter of Paris. Because he trained as a saddle maker, the first Hermès shop exclusively sold saddles and equestrian accessories to European noblemen and royalty. By the 1880s, Thierry’s son and successor Charles-Emile Hermes expanded the company and opened a new location near the Palais de l’Elysee. It was not until 1922 when Hermès introduced their first handbags and, not long after, they had become the pinnacle of luxury. Today, Hermès is still a family run company, known across the globe for its high quality leather products.
