Description
Newton & Fairclough 12-bore boxlock non-ejector shotgun, SN128828
Barrel length: 30"; Chambers: 2 1/2"; Chokes: R 4 L 27; Material: steel; Rib: game; Locks: boxlock; Operating lever: top-lever; Stock length: 14 1/4"; Grip type: straight; Weight: 6lb 10oz.
This is a Webley-type boxlock non-ejector probably dating from around WWI with a 14 1/4†straight-hand stock, 30" steel barrels with 2 1/2†chambers and game rib. The gun has been re-jointed, the barrels re-blued and the stock refinished. The splinter snap-on forend shows some damage to the wood (possibly a dog’s teeth marks) and the checkering is in need of refreshing.
Other Notes: Little is known about Newton, Fairclough and Co Ltd except that they traded at 2 Oliver's Yard, City Road, London from 1917-1923.
