Description
OTTO GEIGENBERGER (1881 – 1946, Germany): Two Oil on Canvas Paintings Depicting European Views. 1. 1920, With an onion domed chapel in a rural setting, signed and dated on the face. Framed: 25â€h x 19â€w; Canvas: 23.75â€h x 17.75â€w. 2. Depicting a European Port Scene; Signed on the face. Framed: 23.5â€h x 31â€l; Canvas: 21.75â€h x 29.25â€l. Geigenberger was awarded the scarce Albrecht Durer Medal, the Rome Prize and the Prize of the German Artists' Union. He belonged to the Munich Secession, the Berlin Secession, the Prussian Academy of the Arts, the Association of Berlin Artists and from 1945 the Neue Gruppe Munchen and the Ulm Artists' Guild. The appraisal was part of a much larger estate appraisal of fine art and antiques (many offered throughout this auction) and a copy of the cover page and this listing will be included with the lot.

PROVENANCE: Frederic C. 'Fritz' Wallace (1904 – 2014, Germany, America)

was born in Munich, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1938 and served with the Army for three years in the ‘European Theater of Operations’ (ETO). He traveled extensively throughout the globe, collecting with an extremely educated focus and uncommon eye. Truly devoted to research for his collection, Mr. Wallace ensured that he purchased the rarest of interested items in only the best of condition. A fortunate Realtor and Developer, he lived in Sarasota, where he was a patron of the arts and served for many years on the Board of Directors at the historic Asolo Repertory Theatre. Condition
Both are original and unrestored, would benefit greatly from a cleaning. 1. Two small flakes by the chapel’s spire and two in the lower margins, otherwise a natural craquelure. 2. Areas of cracking and craquelure to the surface of the paint, paint flaking along top from stretcher bar and frame wear and two larger areas of flaking lower center (.75â€h x 1.5â€w) and lower right (.75â€h x 3â€l), other minor scattered areas of flaking to the paint.
