Description
(38x15") mounted beneath a 68" glass topped coffee table and with a cut-down wooden propeller (26x9") projecting through the tabletop in the center. Founded in 1904 and producing its first aircraft engine in 1906, Continental Motors was the world's largest maker of engines for use in cars, commercial vehicles and aircraft built by others in the 1920s. This American based company introduced the "R670-5" or the "W-670" as it was called in 1934. During WW II, this 7 cylinder engine became famous as the power plant for the Boeing Stearman PT-117 US Army "Kaydet" and the US Navy N2S-1"Yellow Peril" trainers. (Although Continental is most well known for its aviation engines, they were also contracted to produce the air-cooled V12 "AV-1790-5B" gasoline engine for the U.S. Army's M47 Patton tank and the diesel AVDS-1790-2A for the M48 Patton and M60 series main battle tanks.) This engine put out 210 horsepower at 2,000 RPM with a displacement of 668 cubic inches and weighs 430 lbs. It appears to be in excellent condition and, as a coffee table, is sure to promote enthusiastic comment from your friends. Professional packing/shipping required.
