Description
Rome, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. This is a double-nozzled bronze oil lamp that has been cast with delineating curls. Wealthy families used and displayed metal lamps, and lamps with multiple nozzles that burned more fuel, as a display of their social standing and financial success. The form of this is beautiful; there is a similar piece held by the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. Size: 5.75" L x 5.8" W x 1.25" H (14.6 cm x 14.7 cm x 3.2 cm).
