Description
Near East, Persia, 19th century CE. This is a collection of four tiles glazed in bright blues, purples, reds, and whites, all with floral designs. One is circular and has an intricate lace-pattern shape around its edge; the other three are square. Tiles were used to decorate interiors and exteriors of many surfaces in Persia in the 19th century -- religious buildings, imperial palaces, and residences of dignitaries. Size of largest: 8.5" W x 1.5" H (21.6 cm x 3.8 cm)
