Description
WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, stenciled "4" gallon capacity, cylindrical form with slight shoulder, medial incised rings, heavy beaded collar, rounded flat-top rim, and arched handles, Albany-slip glazed interior. Brushed cobalt horizontal undulating vine decoration featuring three tulips, above stenciled "From / Greensboro", additional brushed/trailed cobalt dots and lines. Probably James Hamilton & Co., Greensboro. 1860-1870. 14" H, 8 1/4" D rim.
Undamaged except for a minor chip to each handle and a very light hairline to base. Medial exterior wear and dirt.
