AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) FAMILY GROUP OF FOLK ART MINIATURE PORTRAITS, watercolor on ivory (each), three examples, depicting a reverend, his wife, and their daughter, the youngest sitter sporting a tortoiseshell comb and high-waisted gown, no signature(s) located. Old inscription to paper the portraits were wrapped in indicates that the sitters are "Probably Rev. Allen & Wife & Daughter / After whose brother Allentown, PA was named". Currently housed together under glass in a late 19th century gold matte and frame. Circa 1820. 2 3/4" x 2" sight (each), 12 3/4" x 10 3/4" OA.
Portraits of reverend and his wife (each on slightly larger oval disk than daughter) have been trimmed at lower edges (presumably to fit in current framing layout), portrait of daughter untrimmed, otherwise excellent. Frame with minor wear.
