Carl Breitbach (1833-1904)
Carl Breitbach was born in Berlin and studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts. From 1862 to 1863 he was a student of Thomas Couture (1815-1879) in Paris, and later of Ludwig Knaus (1829-1910) in Berlin. His landscape motifs were regularly exhibited at the academy exhibitions. He was however especially renowned for his portraits and genre paintings. A selection of his works is preserved at the Märkisches Museum in Berlin, today. (cbo)
