Continental, 20th century. A Louis XV style red lacquered and chinoiserie decorated commode having a serpentine molded rouge marble top over a bombe case with two drawers decorated with genre exterior figural garden scenes outlined with decorative bronze floral mounts, the sides decorated with garden entrance and figure, the angles with gilt bronze foliage mounts terminating in cast foliate sabots. Approximate height 34", width 47.75", depth 24.5".

Some overall losses to lacquer, most notably to the edges of the skirt, legs, and drawers. Large approximately 8" vertical abrasion to right side, and approximately 5" horizontal scratch to upper right beneath top overhang. Approximately 2" area on right side where veneer is lifting, in addition to scattered, random holes, which appear to be drilled, rather than prior worming. Two approximately 2" scratches to left side. Interior of upper drawer has been stabilized. Some minor chipping to marble top. Could benefit from some professional restoration.
