Victor Hasselblad AB
The Swedish company for medium format cameras and scanners was established in 1941 by Victor Hasselblad. He had been educated in the ICA-Kamerawerken and at Kodak in Paris and Rochester and therefore he knew all about technical requirements of modern camera-related photography. In 1941 he produced the first Hasselblad by order of the Swedish government. This was an aerial camera in format 9 x 12. In 1944, the Hasselblad 1600 F was then presented at a New York press conference, which already had all the important features of today’s advanced Hasselblad cameras, including the principle 6 x 6 of single lens reflex cameras and changeable quality lenses. This model was followed by the 1000 F, which was delivered for the first time with Zeiss lenses. Parallel to the development of the single lens reflex cameras, Hasselblad also created a special camera with an extremely wide angle of view: the Hasselblad Super Wide and in 959 in a more elegant form the Hasselblad SWC. In 1972 the Hasselblad 500 C/M and the Hasselblad 500 EL/M appeared on the market, both models with interchangeable focusing screens. A mere digital SLR camera with 22 megapixels was produced in 2005, which is being further developed until today. The Hasselblad cameras are especially famous for their use in the Apollo program of the first lunar landing mission in 1969. (bde)
