Description
A San Ildefonso, Pueblo pottery olla jar by John Gonzalez (Tewa, b.1955). Black pot having a carved tan middle band decorated with a stylized naja / snake with inset turquoise eye. The top and bottom of the band decorated with heishi beads. The underside signed and dated 2003. Measures 5.25" diameter, 3" high.
NOTE: John Gonzales is a Tewa politician and potter. He is the former President of the National Congress of American Indians and served as a consultant to the first Bush administration, a council member of the Tribal Council of San Ildefonso for eight years, and Governor of San Ildefonso.
