Description
Japan, Edo Period, 18th century CE. This is a large and well-shaped bronze chalice that would have been used in a Buddhist temple. Interestingly, the bottom still contains the broken remains of the pottery that was used in the casting process. Size: 5.55" W x 6.25" H (14.1 cm x 15.9 cm).
Provenance: Ex-estate of Paul and Louise Bernheimer, Cambridge, MA and Laguna Woods, CA - acquired before 1980
