Description
Group of Three (3) Religious oil paintings depicting Cardinal de Medici, Cardinal Borghese, and an Eastern Orthodox Saint. 1st item: Oil on copper depicting Cardinal Medici. Born Giovanni di Lorenzo de' Medici on December 11, 1475, he was the second son of Lorenzo the Magnificent, and would later become Pope Leo X from March 9, 1513 to his death on December 1, 1521. Housed in a decorative gilt wooden frame. Sight - 7" H x 5 1/4" W. Framed - 10 3/4" H x 9 1/4" W. 18th century or earlier. 2nd item - Oil on copper depicting Cardinal Borghese. Born Camillo Borghese into the noble Borghese family of Siena on September 17, 1552, he later became Pope Paul V from May 16, 1605 to his death on January 28, 1621. 18th century or earlier. Sight - 7" H x 5 1/4" W. Framed - 10 7/8" H x 9 1/8" W. 3rd item: Oil on board of an Eastern Orthodox Saint. The figure wears robes and a mitre, surmounted by a thin halo with writing, to his left is an icon of the Virgin and Child. Housed in a carved gilt wooden frame. Sight - 6 3/8" H x 5 1/8" W. Framed - 9 3/4" H x 8 1/2". Early 19th century. Provenance: The estate of Jean A. Yeatman and Harry C. Yeatman, formerly of Hamilton Place Plantation (near Columbia, Tennessee). Condition
1st item: Some scattered paint flakes, approximately one dozen, largest 1/8". Losses to gilt frame. 2nd item: Scattered paint flakes, approximately 10%, primarily upper half, several to and around the head and face, largest 3/8". Losses to gilt frame. 3rd item: Overall craquelure and grime. Losses to gilt frame.
