PROBYN DIGHTON: (1833-1924) English General, Victoria Cross winner for his numerous actions during the Indian Mutiny 1857-58. Keeper of the Privy Purse, Secretary to Edward, Prince of Wales and Comptroller of the Household. A.L.S., D. M. Probyn, four pages, 8vo, Sandringham, Norfolk, 20th January 1894, to Sir William Broadbent. Probyn announces 'The Prince & Princess of Wales have desired me to write and invite you to pay Their Rl. Highnesses a friendly visit (No illness this time, thank goodness!) at Sandringham', adding that the visit will be from the 27th - 29th, giving details of the best train ('what we call our “Saturday Special”') to take from St. Pancras and also remarking 'If you bring a servant with you (but there is not the slightest necessity for you to do so) perhaps you may like to send him with your luggage….'.
