Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Chimu / Inca culture, ca. 1475 to 1500 CE. Gorgeous blackware jar in two lobes with long bridge handle. Atop one lobe a man rests on his belly with a very exagerated smile on his face - working whistle emerging from beneath his torso. The other lobe supports the spout which acts as the mouthpiece. Vessels such as this were designed to whistle when liquids were poured from them so that the owner might be alerted if someone was steeling his prized chicha. Size: 9" W x 8.5" H (22.9 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Van Scriver collection acquired before 1980.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
