NOTES / REFERENCES: Akio Takamori, currently residing in Seattle, was born in Nobeoka, Miyazaki, Japan in 1950. Upon his graduation from the University of Tokyo, he apprenticed to a master folk potter at Koishiwara, Kyushu. In 1974 Takamori made the move to the United States, receiving his B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute and later attending Alfred University in New York for his M.F.A. Takamori’s ceramics are in many important private and public collections, including: Ariana Museum, Geneva, Switzerland; Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, Montana; Carnegie Institute Art Museum, Pittsburgh; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Arts and Design, New York; The Museum of Ceramic Arts, Alfred, New York; Everson Museum, Sryacuse, N.Y.; Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art, Shigaraki, Japan; Rhode Island School of Design Museum; Seattle Art Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum, London, England.
