Description
First badge: Ossining Hose Co. " 1”, the Ossining Hose company number one, Established May 4th, 1812, known as the Washington Engine Company No. 1, according to their website this was most likely due to the image of George Washington that was on its first engine purchased from the Tribeca NY Hose Company No.1. This badge is a 2 inches by 2 inches with a screw style back for attachment to uniform. It is a silver tone metal with verdigris patina on 1/3 of the front, no verdigris on the back. The badge is intact and complete with the original nut to secure the screw back.Second badge: This is a silver tone metal shield style pin back " Ossining 1293 Fire Department”, the department also dates its inception to May of 1812 and currently comprises 9 separate Fire Companies who have combined to be the Ossining NY Fire Department over the ensuing 204-year history. 2 1/8 in by 1 1/2 in, mild tarnish and wear at high points, pin back and clasp are intact and functional. Very good condition.
