Description
Pre-Columbian, south-coastal Peru, Ica culture, ca 800 to 1200 CE. A rare pottery jar in bulbous form decorated with added pigments in shades of red and black. Designs include 6 snakes between 3 geometric designs. Snake like designs in black around rim. Sometimes it is simply impossible to understand what the artist was trying to represent, but the jar is still quite striking in its somewhat crude manner. Size: 8" W x 8" H (20.3 cm x 20.3 cm)
