Description
OHIO-ATTRIBUTED JACQUARD COVERLET, two panels, in navy blue and natural, "bird of paradise" field, "Boston town" double border with pagoda-like structures, buildings and palm tree border at end, fringe at one end. Circa 1870. 68" x 71 1/2" without fringe.
Very good visual condition with puckering on reverse fabric, possible old reduction at top edge, areas of wear on reverse.
Literature: Attribution as in Heisey - A Checklist of American Coverlet Weavers, p. 102 (image) and p. 103 (image); similar designs in Shein - Coverlets and the Spirit of America, p. 204-207, coverlets 97 and 98.
Provenance: From a Wisconsin Private Collection.
