SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA GEOMETRIC OVERSHOT COVERLETS, LOT OF THREE, navy and natural, each woven with wool weft, linen warp in two panels of varying widths, one with navy fringe on three sides; rolled and selvedge edges; one woven in the "Nine Chariot Wheels" pattern. 19th century. 72" x 92", 54" x 90", and 56" x 88 (measurements without fringe).
Fair to good, consistent with wear and age. Some unraveling on rolled edge, small holes and areas of staining and slight discoloration.
Provenance: From the collection of Gene and Betty Driver of Broadway, Virginia.
Exhibited: "Colorful and Cozy: The Woven Art of the Coverlet", Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society, December 2015-March 2016.
Catalogue Note: Coverlet measuring 56" x 88" was obtained in Rockingham County, Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
