Description
Handsome Pair of Chinese Export Rose Medallion Porcelain Bough Pots, second quarter 19th century, decorated with Mandarin scenes on a molded "jewel"-encrusted ground, the pierced covers decorated to match, set with rope-twist gilt handles, h. 9", w. 6-3/4", d. 7-1/2". Provenance: Lynda Willauer Antiques, Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Condition
In overall good condition with no significant losses. Both lidded pots exhibit over-painting/glaze along their recessed rims and underneath the lid rims. All four pieces with rouge de fer "characters" within a small unglazed section of each piece. Minor scattered rubbed losses to the pigment (primarily to the raised "berries" throughout) and gilding (primarily to the outer rim edges and tops of handles), all consistent with age and use. One pot has a small loss to one of the lower applied decorative animals and an old professional restoration to one handle (does not fluoresce).
