Description
Selling first pair of two pair of bookends offered in this auction - Rare and important and in EXCELLENT PRISTINE CONDITION, an Albert Berry (1878-1949) pair of gold-gilded bookends, approximately 5 1/2" high with large pre-glacial fossilized walrus, mammoth or mastodon ivory. Berry was an active renown metalsmith artist in Alaska and Washington State during the arts and crafts movement. Each bookend has the embossed pinecone motif and large fossilized ivory piece and marked with his incised mark used between 1918 to 1949, “Albert Berry Craft Shop, Seattleâ€. Provenance - Recently acquired from the heirs of John G. Dorn who was the original owner of the Dorn Winery, Sandusky Ohio from 1888 to 1934, and the original, custom order, purchaser of two Albert Berry desk sets and two pair of bookends - one desk set for his office at the winery and one desk set for home.
