Description
Cambodia, Khmer Empire (Angkor culture), ca. 800 to 1300 CE. This is a beautifully-shaped, thick bronze bowl with an incised design of perfect concentric circles on its base and a slightly incurved body shape rising to a rounded rim. A beautiful variated green patina covers the body. The Khmer believed that bronze was a noble material, connoting success and prosperity, and bronze was often used in making religious objects. A bowl like this one was probably used in a temple for ritual activities, or possibly used domestically by a noble family. Size: 5.5" W x 3.5" H (14 cm x 8.9 cm)
