Ancient Near East, Indus Valley, ca. 2000 BCE. This is a small pottery figure in the form of Astarte (Ishtar), the chiefo female goddess of the ancient Near East. She wears a necklace, with emphasized breasts beneath it; her eyes are hollow (probably once filled with something else) and she has incised hair. Size: 2.625" H (6.7 cm)
