Description

A late Victorian gold emerald brooch. The square-shape foil back emerald and cannetille dome, with similarly-set embossed scrolling ribbon surround, suspending later snake-link swags and emerald and paste oval-shape locket. One emerald deficient. One replacement paste. Length 7.7cms. Weight 14.1gms.

Overall condition fair. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.

Reverse of locket drop and central panel with glazed compartments, glass replaced with plastic.

The piece has been recently re-gilt.

Probable replacement sections, the design to the locket and the central panel do not match.

One emerald deficient.

One green paste replacement.

Possible further replacement gems.

Emeralds are foil back, varied discolouration, varied saturation, varied inclusions, some surface reaching.
