Very good condition
According to information of the current owner, the depicted young girl is the famous paintress Anna Ancher ( 1859-1935).

Pedersen painted a bourgeois interior with a young girl and her father, who listens to her piano playing. Two tall candlesticks with lit candles light up the cheerful scene. The figures are effectively illuminated by the candlelight and let especially the faces and the girl's white dress shine.

Condition:
The painting is in overall very good condition. Close to the frame there are few spots with retouching visible under UV light. The is a very little retouched spot at the shadow of the upper painting in the upper right. In the reverse there is an annotation in felt-tip pen with the artists' name and data as well as no ‘43’. The decorated gilded frame is also in good condition with only some small damages in the outer area. Small areas with spalling professionally repainted. The painting measures 69.3 x 59 cm and the frame is 84 x 73.5 cm .

Viggo Christian Frederik Vilhelm Pedersen (1854-1926)
Pedersen was born in Copenhagen and the son of a family of artists. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1871 to 1878. His work was decisively influenced by the close contact with P.C. Skovgaard and J. la Cour. Pedersen undertook study trips and traveled through Europe and finally stayed in Munich for some time. He painted naturalistic landscapes and brightly colored figure paintings. His paintings are in major art museums in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki. (hth)
