Weight (Lbs): 1.25
Height (In.): 12.5
Width (In.): 6.75
Depth (In.): 6.75
Size: 20.5 x 4.0 x 4.0"
Maker: Unknown
Material: Beech
Date: C. 1900
Provenance: N/A
Condition: Patination, minor scratching to the surface. The left arm has lost some articulation due to a repair to the left elbow with what appears to be wood glue. It is also loose at the shoulder, causing the arm to droop occasionally.
History: Artist's models have existed for as long as there have been artists interested in depicting an object outside of nature. The Greeks are believed to have been the first to denote models as a profession or commonly understood medium back in antiquity. For artists unable to use human models either through economic constraints or the prudish ideals of the times, artificial models came into use. These were particularly relevant with the advent of Christian ideals on nudity and the human body during the Medieval Ages.
