Condition: Working at time of description. Some tarnish on the metal and screws. Lacking connecting piece between machine and horn, so playing requires holding horn in place while it plays. Some scrapes and dings to the box itself. Small scratches to cylinders. Degradation of the paper containers housing the cylinders.
History: Discontinued in 1913, the open horn Edison Standard Phonograph became a "middle income" household staple in early 1898 on through, being affordable enough to purchase and durable enough to last. As tastes changed, so did the phonograph, able to accommodate the needs of consumers.
