Description
The shaft of this cane or walking stick is an ebonized hardwood made to look like bamboo. There is a wrapping of copper around the seam where the gold plated head comes free to reveal a skewer blade. The top of the cane states "For King and Empire - GRI - Services Rendered" in the form of an honorable discharge badge for sickness or injury from WW1.

Condition: Roughness to the seam on which the head meets the shaft, minor abrasions to the wood. Moderate denting on the cap.
History: Medals like the one depicted on the top of the cane here were given to British military men who were honorably discharged during World War One. Each had a distribution number on the reverse side and came with a card certifying authenticity.
