This cane or walking stick, is Malacca wood with a silver topper capped by an essex crystal with a painted hound's head. The ferrule is iron, wrapped and capping the base.

History: Beginning in 1860, the art of reverse intaglio designs were introduced to England by Thomas Cooke. The process involved the polishing of rock crystal into a cabochon design, painting the image in reverse on the flat edge, and backing it in gold foil or mother of pearl. The art remained popular for over sixty years.
