Pair of Victorian English sterling silver-gilt compotes, by R & S Garrard & Company (James Garrard), London, 1887, 1888, each reticulated example with pierced fan reserves, heavily chased scrolls, and stylized crosses surrounding the central pictorial medallion reserve depicting an engraved coal miner above the Latin inscription 'Omne Solum Forti Patria' raised on a turned standard and conforming base accented by animal masks, 7.75"h x 7.5"w, 51.01 troy oz.
