South Pacific, Papua New Guinea, Sepik River, ca. mid-20th century CE. Old and exceptional woven mask of the style known as Talipun, a ritual form of money used as a bride price. Woven of native bark and covered in different shades of mud, attached to a very old sea shell. One of the more attractive varieties of this mask that we have ever seen. See a similar example from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas. Custom stand. Size: 10" W x 19.5" H (25.4 cm x 49.5 cm)
