Description
Oversized oil on canvas after Paulus Pontis (Flemish, 1603-1658) late 19th or early 20th century, titled 'Christ Carrying the Cross,' depicting the sixth Station of the Cross with Veronica wiping the face of Jesus, artist initialed 'C. B. fe' at lower right, 47"h x 64"w, overall size including frame 54"h x 71"w x 4"d. A print of this work, which Pontis modeled after a painting by Peter Paul Rubens, is apart of the permanent collection of the Fogg Museum at Harvard University.
