Description
Luristan, northern Iran, ca. 1000 to 800 BCE. A nice trio of ancient Luristan cast bronze ceremonial items. Two are rounded bronze standards that probably had finials attached to them at one point. The third piece is a finial from atop a "Master of Animals" standard, depicting the "Master of Animals" figure him- or herself. This is a subhuman figure holding the necks of equally stylized, somewhat leonine creatures. The figure's arms encircle the animals in what some have seen as an image of control. Size: 2.25" W (size of Master of Animals) x 7.4" H (size of largest standard) (5.7 cm x 18.8 cm)
