Description: "This monumental work was the first attempt at a comprehensive record of the badges and insignia worn by the individual in the British Navy, Army and Flying Services to indicate rank, trade, branch or skill at arms; in addition the section on the Army includes detailed information on regimental devices. The aim was to include every major badge from the earliest distinctions, which were often weapons or complete modes of dress, to those worn by men and women who use the sophisticated skills and machinery of the modern services. An outstanding feature of the book is the very large section devoted to indexes. These add immeasurably to the value of the book as a reference tool."
