Description
An early Fireman's brass lantern made by Howard & Morse in New York. This is an unusual lantern for many reasons: (1) unique lid clips (2) odd globe size (3) unusual pinch pot. It has a Star Lantern March 15, 1870 Howard & Morse hallmark on the lid. It has a hollow bail and a hanging loop on the top. The vent area is ornately shaped with a reverse "S" curve and some stress cracks. The bell and skirt are nicely formed. The bell does have a dent on one side so it does not stand perfectly straight. The burner looks like a mini-Calender with the top of the dome clipped off. The required globe (existing Loc-Nob is a place holder) would be 6" tall, 3 7/8" base diameter, 3" top diameter. This is not a common size.
